Patna, June 20, 2024: Residents in several districts of Bihar finally got a breather on Thursday after light to moderate rainfall brought relief from the intense heat.

Scorching temperatures and high humidity levels have battered South Bihar:

For the last 25 days, scorching temperatures and high humidity levels have battered the state, particularly South Bihar, where over 100 people have reportedly died due to heatstroke.

Moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning was recorded late Wednesday night in parts of the Seemanchal region, including Kishanganj and Araria.

In Patna, strong winds blew throughout the night, bringing down temperatures and turning the weather pleasant. Residents were seen stepping out to enjoy the cool breeze.

Rainfall was also reported from Bhojpur, Rohtas, Kaimur, Gaya, Buxar, Jamui, Motihari, Jehanabad and Aurangabad, offering major respite to people reeling under extreme heat.

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in Bihar:

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in Saran, Muzaffarpur, Nawada, Sheikhpura, Darbhanga, Suapul, Araria, Purnia, Kishanganj and Madhubani over the next 24 hours. Wind speeds are likely to reach 40-50 kmph in these areas.

The rain has particularly uplifted farmers who were anxiously waiting for monsoon showers to begin paddy cultivation; Farmers say this spell will help save seedlings and support timely transplanting.
