Patna, September 30, 2026: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary visited flood-hit West Champaran on Wednesday to assess the situation and review relief and rescue arrangements.
His visit, however, was briefly disrupted after some flood-affected residents raised slogans against local public representatives at a relief camp in Bathna.
Samrat Choudhary reached the premises of PM SHRI Government Plus-2 High School in Bathna at around 12:02 pm after arriving by helicopter.
Senior officials, including the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, as well as BJP MP Dr Sanjay Jaiswal, were already present at the site.
After landing, the Chief Minister received a briefing from administrative officials on the flood situation and relief preparations. He also inspected the newly constructed helipad, security arrangements and the relief centre.
Samrat Choudhary announced the strengthening of the Gandak and Kosi embankments:
Choudhary conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas before visiting the relief camp.
During his interaction with officials, he said surveys of the Gandak and Kosi rivers were underway and that the findings would be used to strengthen and permanently reinforce vulnerable embankments.
The visit comes amid a severe flood situation in parts of West Champaran following a sharp rise in the Gandak River.
The Water Resources Department reported a discharge of 5.435 lakh cusecs at the Valmikinagar barrage, with the river remaining at exceptionally high levels.
At the relief camp, the Chief Minister interacted with affected residents and sought information about the relief and rescue operations.
Some residents, however, began raising slogans against the local MP and MLA and expressed dissatisfaction over the relief arrangements.
They also leveled allegations against the elected representatives, though the allegations could not be independently verified.
Security personnel subsequently tightened arrangements around the Chief Minister, who left the venue shortly afterwards.
MP escorted out amid protest:
The situation reportedly became more tense after Samrat Choudhary’s departure.
Sanjay Jaiswal and the Narkatiaganj MLA remained inside the school premises for some time amid security concerns.
Police later attempted to escort Jaiswal to his vehicle. During the process, an agitated crowd reportedly surrounded the MP’s car.
Some individuals allegedly threw cow dung at the vehicle and struck it with their hands.
Police personnel eventually managed to escort Jaiswal away from the area under tight security.
The incident occurred against the backdrop of extensive flooding in the Champaran region.
The Bihar government has directed officials to maintain heightened vigilance and secure relief, rescue, and essential services in affected areas.
The administration is continuing to monitor the Gandak and other rivers, while relief and rescue operations remain underway in the flood-affected areas.
