Patna, September 29, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its candidates for the upcoming Legislative Council elections in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, naming four candidates for Bihar and six for Uttar Pradesh.
The list was released by the BJP’s Central Election Committee on Tuesday, September 29.
In Bihar, the party has nominated candidates for four of the eight Legislative Council seats going to polls from the Graduate and Teachers’ constituencies.
The BJP has renominated sitting MLCs Naval Kishore Yadav and Dr NK Yadav from the Patna Teachers’ and Kosi Graduates’ constituencies, respectively.
The party has fielded Sarvesh Kumar, the incumbent Independent MLC, from the Darbhanga Graduates’ constituency.
Narendra Parasad Singh has been named the BJP candidate from the Tirhut Teachers’ constituency.
Singh has previously represented the constituency in the Legislative Council.
Eight Bihar seats to go to polls, and the BJP has announced four seats so far:
Elections are being held for eight Bihar Legislative Council seats—four Graduate constituencies and four Teachers’ constituencies.
The Graduate constituencies are Patna, Darbhanga, Tirhut and Kosi, while the Teachers’ constituencies are Patna, Darbhanga, Tirhut and Saran.
The Election Commission’s schedule states that the notification and nomination process will begin on September 29.
The last date for filing nominations is October 6, followed by scrutiny on October 7. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until October 9.
Polling will take place on October 23 from 8 am to 4 pm, while counting of votes and declaration of results are scheduled for October 27. The election process is scheduled to be completed by October 31.
Neeraj Kumar and Anuj Kumar Singh in Patna Graduates’ contest:
The BJP’s announcement comes after its NDA ally, the Janata Dal (United), nominated sitting MLC Neeraj Kumar from the Patna Graduates’ constituency.
The contest has also drawn attention within the JD(U) after Mokama MLA Anant Kumar Singh announced his support for Jan Suraaj candidate Anuj Kumar Singh.
Singh has said that his opposition to Neeraj Kumar is linked to a personal dispute.
The BJP’s latest candidate list marks the formal entry of the party’s four nominees into the electoral process as the nomination period begins.
In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP has announced six candidates for the Legislative Council elections, which are also scheduled for October 23.
