New Delhi, January 1, 2026: On the occasion of the New Year, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), India’s leading public sector telecom provider, announced the nationwide expansion of its Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) service, also known as Wi-Fi Calling.

The service is now available to BSNL customers in all telecom circles across the country.

With this expansion, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited users can make and receive voice calls and send messages over a Wi-Fi network, ensuring clear and reliable connectivity even in areas with weak or no mobile network coverage, such as homes, offices, basements, and remote locations.

Key features of BSNL VoWiFi:

While elaborating on the features, A. Robert J. Ravi, ITS, CMD of BSNL/MTNL, said, “VoWiFi is an IMS-based service that supports seamless handover between Wi-Fi and mobile networks.”

Calls are made using the customer’s existing mobile number and default phone dialer, with no need for third-party applications.

The service is free of charge, with no additional fees for Wi-Fi-based calling.

It helps reduce congestion on mobile networks, improving overall call quality.

The service is particularly beneficial for rural and remote areas, where mobile signals are often weak or unavailable.

As long as a stable Wi-Fi connection—such as Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited Bharat Fiber or any other broadband service—is available, users can enjoy uninterrupted voice services.

The nationwide rollout of VoWiFi marks an important milestone in BSNL’s network modernization program and reflects the company’s commitment to enhancing digital connectivity, especially in underserved and difficult-to-reach regions.

Device support and activation:

VoWiFi is supported on most modern smartphones. Customers only need to enable Wi-Fi calling in their handset settings.

For device compatibility and further assistance, customers may visit their nearest BSNL customer service centre or contact the BSNL helpline at 1800-1503.
