Patna, December 29, 2025: Bihar Education Minister Sunil Kumar on Monday said that more than Rs 70,000 crore has been allocated for the education sector in the 2025-26 state budgets, calling it a historic achievement for Bihar.
Addressing the media, Sunil Kumar said that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has been entrusted with the responsibility of governing the state with a strong commitment to justice and inclusive development, and education has always remained at the core of his vision.
“The Chief Minister has consistently taken concrete steps to strengthen the education system. The government is fully committed to providing quality education for the future of our students,” the minister said.
Sunil Kumar says the education department is focusing on research, skill development, and infrastructure:
The Minister said that special emphasis will now be placed on research, innovation, and skill development to prepare students for future challenges.
Education has been accorded top priority under the cabinet-approved ‘Seven Resolves-3,’ under which model schools will be established in every block of the state.
He added that efforts are underway to modernize degree colleges and old educational institutions, ensuring better infrastructure and academic standards.
Sunil Kumar highlighted that Bihar earlier faced an acute shortage of teachers, but due to large-scale recruitment, the number of teachers and headmasters has now crossed 2,27 lakh. He said that further appointments will be made under Teacher Recruitment Exam-4 (TRE-4).
Alongside recruitment, special attention is being given to teacher training, with workshops and learning programs being conducted to enhance teaching quality.
The minister said that under the scholarship scheme, funds have been directly transferred to the bank accounts of 4,663 students through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). As a result of sustained efforts, the school dropout rate has declined to just 1 percent.

He also said that the government is strengthening the Mid-Day Meal Scheme, and the honorarium of cooks has been increased. Special initiatives are being undertaken to promote girls’ education across the state.
Sunil Kumar informed that Bihar is rapidly moving towards modern education practices. Smart classrooms have been set up, teachers are being provided with tablets, and bilingual textbooks are being introduced to improve learning outcomes.
He said that ensuring the timely supply of books and school kits remains a priority, adding that textbooks have already been distributed to 1.19 crore students across the state.
Improvements in higher classes and exam results:
The Minister noted that delays in academic sessions in some universities were a concern earlier, but the situation has significantly improved.

He said that matriculation and intermediate examination results have been encouraging, and strict action is taken against teachers or staff found negligent in their duties.
