Tejashwi Yadav said 3 crores people’s migration from Bihar every year.

Patna October 10, 2024: Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar assembly, has strongly criticized the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government over the ongoing issue of people migration from Bihar.

In a post on his official X (Formally Twitter) account on Thursday, Tejashwi Yadav cited central government data that was put in the parliament, claiming that 3 crore people migrated from Bihar every year.

“The central government data which was given in the parliament, around 3 crore people migrate from Bihar annually and it has been registered on the portal of the Labour department. However, there are estimates, that the actual number might be as high as 5 crore per year,” he said.

Tejashwi Yadav Criticized Nitish Kumar Government.

Tejashwi Yadav blamed the Nitish Kumar government for failing to develop industries in Bihar over the past 20 years, leading to a frightening increase in migration.

“CM Nitish Kumar claims that Bihar’s landlocked position, lacking access to a coastline, prevents industrialization. During the grand alliance government of 17 months, the industry department which comes under RJD, had signed MoUs worth 50,000 crores for the industrial developments in Bihar,” Yadav said.

Further criticizing the double-engine government—Tejashwi Yadav said Bihar has not received its fair share despite contributing significantly to the NDA’s success in the national election (Lok Sabha election).

“The double engine government failed to establish industries despite Bihar having given the NDA 31 MPs in 2014, 39 MPs in 2019 and 30 MPs in 2024. Despite these numbers, Bihar has not received its fair share of development or right,” Yadav said.

Tejashwi Yadav Promised for Job Creation in Bihar.

“If our government will come to power in Bihar, we would focus on job creation within the state by establishing food processing units, industrial clusters and manufacturing hubs across Bihar to provide jobs to people in their own districts,” he said.

The local employment would curb the large-scale migration of labourers, a persistent issue in Bihar, which has been exacerbated by factors like annual flooding, which often affects a significant portion of the state particularly in North Bihar, Kosi and Seemanchal regions.

Every year floods affect around 22 to 23 districts of Bihar, causing widespread disruption to livelihoods, agriculture and infrastructure. The flooding forces many residents, particularly labourers, to migrate in search of stable employment and better living conditions in other states.

This year, the situation has worsened with more than 30 districts being affected by floods, according to the data of the state government.
