Patna, October 14, 2025: Soon after the announcement of the BJP’s first list, folk singer Maithili Thakur joined the BJP under the state president Dilip Jaiswal.
The 25-year-old Thakur, who hails from Madhubani, is expected to contest from the Alinagar Assembly seat, and her name may be included in the BJP’s second list of 30 candidates, likely to be released soon.
Thakur, known for promoting Maithili folk and classical music, learned music from her father, Ramesh Thakur and lives in Najafgarh, Delhi, with her mother, Pooja Thakur and two brothers, Rishabh and Ayachi Thakur.
BJP announcement first list of 71 candidates:
The Bhartiya Janata Party on Tuesday released its first list of 71 candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections 2025, showcasing a careful social and regional balance while also introducing several new faces.
According to the list, the Bhartiya Janata Party has given tickets to both Deputy Chief
Ministers, 12 ministers, and 48 sitting MLAs, nine women, and 12 new candidates.

However, the party has dropped several senior leaders, including seven-time MLA Nand Kishore Yadav and Arun Sinha.
In this first list, the BJP has emphasized inclusive representation across communities. More than 50% of the tickets have been allotted to Dalits, deprived sections, backward, and extremely backward classes, as well as women.
The first includes 20 candidates from Other Backward Classes (OBCs), 11 candidates from Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs), 6 candidates from the SC/ST community, and 8 women candidates.

The BJP has also maintained representation from upper castes, including Bhumihars, Brahmins, Rajputs, and Kayasthas, reflecting its attempt to reach every social section.

With this announcement, the party has intensified its preparations for the elections, seeking to project an image of both social inclusivity and generational change within its ranks.
