Patna, July 28, 2025: Continuous overnight rain has brought life in Patna to a grinding halt, with knee-deep waterlogging reported from several major localities.
Areas like Patliputra colony, Dak Bungalow Road, Patna Junction, Boring Road, Rajendra Nagar, and Station Road resemble rivers more than roads due to severe waterlogging, becoming symbolic of administrative apathy rather than just a seasonal inconvenience.
School vans failed to arrive, office-goers were stranded at home, and children and the elderly were left helpless indoors.
At Patna Junction, water even rose onto the railway tracks, paralyzing both rail and road traffic.
Water logging on streets, drainage system in question:
Despite annual claims by the Municipal Corporation of crores spent on drainage preparedness, including the deployment of machines and clean-up drives, the first major spell of rain has again exposed the hollow assurances.
Every monsoon, officials repeat the same promises, only to be washed away in the first downpour.

“The roads no longer look like roads due to waterlogging. They’ve become streams where daily life is drowning,” said a local commuter, Rajesh Kumar. Pedestrians are especially at risk—slippery streets, open drains, and the looming danger of electrocution have turned routine travel into a life-threatening task.
Due to waterlogging, traffic jams have choked the city’s arteries, and those caught in them are left frustrated and helpless.
Food threat escalates in Bihar:
The situation is worsening statewide. Water levels in major rivers have surged.
The Ganga River is nearing the danger mark at Digha Ghat and Gandhi Ghat in Patna.
The Gandak River is nearing the danger level at Dumaria Ghat in Gopalganj.
The Meteorological Centre in Patna has predicted more rainfall with wind speeds of 30-40 km/h over the next 24 hours in 19 districts, issuing heavy rain warnings for Supaul, Araria, and Kishanganj. Citizens have been advised to stay indoors and remain alert to dangers such as lightning strikes.
A flood of frustration:
With schools, hospitals, businesses, and homes submerged under a sheet of rainwater, public outrage is mounting.
