Voter list verification sparks political storm in Bihar, matter reaches Supreme Court.

Patna, July 7, 2025: A political battle has erupted in Bihar over the voter list verification process ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.

 The issue has now reached the Supreme Court, which has scheduled a hearing for Thursday, July 10.

RJD national president Lalu Prasad Yadav on Monday launched a direct attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, posting on X:

“Two Gijaratis are trying to snatch the right to vote of 8 crore Biharis. These two Gujaratis hate Bihar, the Constitution, and democracy and the Constitution.”

Tejashwi Yadav calls it Vote Ban (Vote Bandi) conspiracy:

Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav also posted on X, alleging: “It is a deep conspiracy of vote ban in Bihar. The game of cutting the votes of Dalits-OBCs and adding fake votes has started. Modi-Nitish is working through the Election Commission, determined to crush the Constitution and democracy and snatch your right to vote.”

He added that the ruling parties are afraid of defeat and are using the voter list revision as a tool to manipulate elections in Bihar.

Opposition parties claim that with the connivance of the Centre, Bihar government, and the Election Commission, a conspiracy is underway to delete the names of crores of voters from the voters list ahead of the elections, calling it unconstitutional and anti-people.

Supreme Court hearing on July 10 on voter list verification:

Multiple petitions challenging the Special Intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar have been filed in the Supreme Court.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal sought an urgent hearing, after which the apex court agreed to list the case for Thursday, July 10.
