Vijay Sinha criticized Tejashwi Yadav on his smart meters stand.

Patna, September 28, 2024: Vijay Sinha, the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, criticized Tejashwi Yadav and said he is unnecessarily raising questions on the smart meters. He pointed out that Tejashwi Yadav was in power when smart meters were also operational. He questioned why Yadav did not raise concerns at that time, implying that Yadav had compromised to stay in power.

The statement of Vijay Sinha came a day after Tejashwi Yadav came on Facebook Live and criticized the Nitish Kumar government.

Vijay Sinha defended the smart meters explaining that it was introduced to prevent electricity theft.

“Just like prepaid mobile phone recharge, smart meters function similarly,” Sinha said.

He invited the opposition leaders to point out any issues with technology, assuring them that the government is ready to address any shortcomings.

Another Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Samrat Choudhary, challenged Tejashwi Yadav to provide evidence of overcharging, adding that RJD state president Jagadanand Singh himself uses a smart meter and has seen a 17% reduction in his electricity bill.

“Over 50 lakh consumers are using smart meters across the state and reiterated that the Nitish Kumar government is transparent and ready to rectify any errors in the system,” Choudhary said.

The ongoing political exchange highlights the deepening tensions between the BJP-JD(U) alliance and the RJD as they continue to engage in public discourse over governance and politics in Bihar.

Tejashwi Yadav, on Friday, accused the state government of looting common people through these smart meters, alleging that the meters were overcharging consumers and labelling them “cheater meters” instead of smart meters.

RJD state president Jagadanand Singh echoed these concerns criticizing CM Nitish Kumar over the issue.
