Patna, June 19, 2024: Passengers on a SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Darbhanga on Wednesday alleged that the air-conditioning system remained non-functional for nearly an hour, leaving the cabin extremely hot during boarding.

Visuals from the aircraft showed several passengers using magazines and newspapers to fan themselves to get relief from the heat.

Passengers repeatedly requested the airline company:

Several fliers claimed that they repeatedly requested the crew to switch on the cooling system. Some alleged that the lack of ventilation also led to discomfort and breathlessness.

“The AC was not turned on for an hour. The temperature inside the flight was more than 40 degrees. Passengers were facing serious problems. The AC was switched on only after take-off,” said Rohan Kumar, who was travelling on the Delhi-Darbhanga sector.

Sanjay Jha demanded an apology from the airline company:

JDU Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Jha also reacted to the incident on social media, saying SpiceJet should apologize for the inconvenience caused and ensure such an incident does not recur.

In an official statement, the airline said flight SG-476 (Delhi-Darbhanga), scheduled to depart at 11 am, pushed back on time and the air-conditioning system “was working normally throughout the flight.” During boarding in Delhi, the airline said, “A slight inefficiency” was felt due to bad weather and both aircraft doors remaining open, but once the doors were shut, cooling normalized.
