Patna, September 19, 2025: Thousands of aspiring teachers demanding the speedy start of TRE-4 recruitment staged a major protest in Patna on Friday, intensifying pressure on the Nitish Kumar government to delay the recruitment of teachers despite Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s earlier announcement of 1.25 lakh vacancies.

The candidates insist that the government should issue the recruitment advertisement before the election code of conduct comes into force.

TRE-4 candidates protest march and police action:

The demonstration began in the morning from Patna College and moved as a procession toward the Chief Minister’s residence.

Anticipating a siege, the district administration had already made heavy security arrangements.

Protesters were stopped at Ramgulam Chowk, where barricades had been set up.

Heavy police forces, led by magistrates, were deployed at sensitive locations including JP Golambar and Dak Bunglow Square.

Water cannons and other crowd-control measures were readied to prevent any escalation.

Student leader Dilip Kumar, who is leading the agitation, said, “The government announced TRE-4 in May, but nothing concrete has happened. Now they are talking about only 26,000 posts instead of 1.25 lakh. If the advertisement is not issued before the code of conduct, the government will face political consequences.”

Candidates’ allegations:

The protesting candidates alleged that while millions of educated youth in Bihar remain unemployed, the government is dragging its feet on the recruitment process.

They pointed out that the Education Minister’s recent statement about filling only 26,000 posts has created anger, as candidates had been expecting more than 1 lakh vacancies.

Education Minister Sunil Kumar clarified that TRE-4 would include over 26,000 posts, and assured that the process would be conducted in a transparent manner.

He announced that the exam will be held from December 16 to 19, 2025, and results will be declared between January 20 and 26, 2026.

This is not the first such protest. On September 9, a similar attempt by candidates to surround the Chief Minister’s House had led to a clash with police, where water cannons and lathi charge were used, injuring several candidates and resulting in detentions.
