Patna, September 9, 2025: Thousands of candidates staged a massive protest in Patna demanding the release of a notification for 1.20 lakh teachers posts under TRE-4 (Teachers Recruitment  Examination-4) before September 15.

Around 4,000 aspirants gathered at Patna College at 11 am and marched through Khetan Market, Bakarganj, Gandhi Maidan, JP Golambar, and Dak Bungalow Square, intending to reach the Chief Minister’s residence.

Their anger stemmed from the government’s recent announcement of only 27,910 vacancies under TRE-4, against the earlier claim of 1.20 lakh posts.

TRE-4 aspirant’s allegation:

Student leader Dilip Kumar accused the government of backtracking on its promises.

“When domicile rules were not in place, the government kept inflating the numbers—sometimes 50,000, sometimes 80,000 and even 1.20 lakh. Now, after implementing domicile, vacancies have been reduced drastically. This is an injustice to Bihar’s youth,” he said.

Dilip Kumar further reminded that both Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary had repeatedly promised 1.20 lakh posts, calling the reduced number a betrayal to unemployed youth.

State government clarification:

Responding to the protest, Education Minister Sunil Kumar assured aspirants that the recruitment process is ongoing and both TRE4 and TRE-5 will be conducted.

“We have already clarified that there will be an examination for TRE 4. The Education department will calculate remaining vacancies after TRE-4 and then take TRE-5 to fill the remaining vacancies. At present, recruitment is being carried out according to the notified vacancies. So far, about 2.5 lakh teachers have been appointed through BPSC,” Kumar said.

Teacher recruitment has been one of the biggest talking points ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly polls.

While the government projects large-scale hiring as a sign of its commitment to education reform, the reduction of posts in TRE-4 has triggered widespread dissatisfaction among educated youth, a crucial vote bank.

As the deadline of September 15 approaches, the intensity of protest is expected to grow unless the government provides a clear roadmap for TRE-5 and justifies the sudden drop in vacancies.
