Patna, January 17, 2026: A deeply devotional atmosphere prevailed in Janaki Nagar of Kaitholia village as the world’s largest Shiva Lingam, the Sahasralingam, was installed at the under-construction Virat Ramayana Temple on Saturday.
The Virat Ramayan Temple is located at Kalyanpur block in Bihar’s East Champaran district.
Samastipur MP was present during the installation of Sahasralingam:
Samastipur MP Shambhavi Choudhary and her husband Sayan Kunal participated in the Puja as principal patrons.
Sayan Kunal is a secretary of the Mahavir Temple Trust, Patna.
The religious rituals are being conducted in accordance with traditional scriptures by learned priests from various parts of the country, including Varanasi, the sacred city of Lord Shiva.
Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place across the temple premises and surrounding areas.
A large number of devotees reached the temple complex on foot via Ram-Janki Path.
Chanting of Shiva Mantras and the singing of devotional and auspicious songs by women devotees added to the spiritual fervor of the occasion. Several prominent political and religious leaders, including Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, attended the event, along with two Deputy Chief Ministers, Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Deepak Kumar, Chief Secretary of Bihar, Pratyay Amrit and others, further emphasizing its significance.
The foundation stone for the construction of the Virat Ramayana Temple was laid on January 30, 2023, under the leadership of Acharya Kishore Kunal, the then chairman of the Bihar State Religious Trust Board. Following the ceremony, nearly 250 labourers worked continuously for around one-and-a-half years to complete the foundation work.
A total of 3,102 pillars were erected, extending nearly 100 feet underground, after which the base platform of the temple complex was constructed.
Sahasralingam was crafted in Mahablipuram, Tamil Nadu:
The Sahasralingam, measuring 33 feet in height and 33 feet in circumference, has been crafted in Mahablipuram, Tamil Nadu, and is now being installed on the completed described as the largest Sahasralingam in the world.
The installation of the Sahasralingam is being viewed as a landmark event, not only for its religious importance but also for its cultural and historical significance, marking a major milestone in the construction of the Virat Ramayana Temple.
