Patna May 20: Apart from a few incidents, the polling in Bihar for the fifth phase was completed by and large peacefully on Monday.

The polling was held in Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur, Madhubani, Saran and Hajipur Lok Sabha constituencies from 7 am to 6 pm. There were reports of some incidents at polling centers in Saran, Sitamarhi and Madhubani Lok Sabha constituencies. In Saran, BJP candidate Rajiv Pratap Rudy leveled booth capturing allegation on the RJD supporters in Amnaur block. A clash between the supporters of the two parties was also registered in Revelganj block. In Madhubani, two persons were detained for their suspected activities.

HR Srinivasa, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar claimed as soon as the complaint reached the Election Commission, the matter was investigated and the disputes were resolved.

He said that a total of 80 candidates were in fray on these five seats including 74 male and 6 female candidates. The total number of voters in those five seats is 95 lakhs, 11 thousand 186 Including 49, lakhs, 99 thousand 627 male, 45 lakhs, 11 thousand 259 female and 300 transgenders.

The election commission has registered 55.85% polling in the five constituencies which was 1.22% lesser compared to the 2019 Lok Sabha election when the election commission had registered 57.07% voting.

The highest voting took place in Muzaffarpur with the election commission has registered 58.10% of polling on Monday. The polling in Muzaffarpur was 61.00% in 2019.

In Sitamarhi, a total of 57.55% polling was registered in the fifth phase on Monday and it was lesser than 2019 when the election commission had registered 59.08%.

In Hajipur, the election commission has registered 56.84% polling which is higher compared to 2019 when the election commission had registered 55.22% polling.

In Saran, the election commission registered 54.50% on Monday while 56.48% registered in 2019.

In Madhubani, the voter turnout was lowest among those five Lok Sabha constituencies. There were 52.20% polling registered today while 53.72% polling was registered in 2019.

“The voting took place in the five Lok Sabha seats in the fifth phase and election commission has set up 9436 polling booths located in 5419 polling stations,” Srinivasa said.

The voters of two polling stations in Gaighat and Aurai in Muzaffarpur boycotted the polling on their local issues.

“We have used 11486 control units, 13562 ballot units and 12573 VVPATs in the fifth phase. The election commission has received 115 complaints which were resolved immediately,” Srinivasa said.
