Patna, September 9, 2025: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has begun delivering on several promises, rolling out decisions that directly impact workers, weaker sections, and public safety.
In a major relief to thousands of frontline workers, the cabinet approved the proposal to increase the monthly honorarium of Anganwadi workers from Rs 7,000 to Rs 9,000 and that of Anganwadi assistants from Rs 4,000 to Rs 4,500.
The decision fulfills a long-standing demand of workers and comes under the Social Welfare Department’s agenda.
The hike will cost the government an additional Rs 345.19 crore annually and will be effective from October 1, 2025.
The Nitish Kumar government approved housing for EWS:
Under the Urban Development and Housing Department, the cabinet approved the allocation of one acre of surplus Housing Board land each in Begusarai and Katihar districts at a token rent of Rs 1.
This land will be used to build affordable housing for the economically weaker sections (EWS).
The cabinet also cleared a few key proposals under the home department.
The cabinet has approved the formation of the Bihar Police Subordinate Service Commission, 2018, replacing the earlier 2010 regulation.
It has also approved the installation of CCTV cameras in all police stations, district headquarters, and jails across the state. This move will improve surveillance in policing.

The cabinet has approved 26 proposals spanning several departments, including health, education, social welfare, food and public distribution, planning and development, and Panchayati Raj.
With these decisions, Nitish Kumar appears to be intensifying welfare measures in the run-up to the upcoming electoral battle.
Political observers believe the moves aim to consolidate support among women, grassroots workers and weaker sections while showcasing development and governance reforms.
