Patna, September 4, 2025: The Bihar government has announced a major push to boost international air connectivity from Patna and Gaya airports.
Under the new aviation policy, Indian aviation companies will be given incentives ranging from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh per flight for launching operations on designated operations on designated foreign routes.

To implement the scheme, the Nitish Kumar government has set up a four-member committee headed by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat.
Other members include the secretary (Expenditure) of the finance department director of the Directorate of Aircraft Organization, and an administrative officer.
Nitish Kumar’s government set parameters:
As per the set parameters, only Indian aviation companies with the necessary international regulatory approvals will be eligible for it.
The aircraft must have a minimum seat capacity of 150 and be a fixed-wing aircraft.
The incentives will initially be provided for 6 months, extendable by another 6 months depending on the commercial performance of the routes.
As per the route incentives, the airline operators will get an incentive of Rs 5 lakh per ferry on the Patna-Kathmandu route, Rs 10 lakh per ferry on the Gaya-Sharjah route, Rs 10 lakh per ferry on the Gaya-Bangkok route, Rs 10 lakh per ferry on the Gaya-Colombo route and Rs 10 lakh per ferry on the Gaya-Singapore route.
The Nitish Kumar government aims to place Bihar on the global aviation map to boost Buddhist tourism through Gaya, which already attracts visitors from across Asia.
Enhance tourism business and religious travel, especially via Patna-Kathmandu and strengthen Bihar’s economy by improving foreign tourist inflow, creating jobs, and expanding economic activities.
The officials of the Nitish Kumar government claim that this policy will make Bihar a hub of international connectivity, leveraging its historic, cultural and religious significance.
