The Election Commission of India allotted a school bag symbol to the Jan Suraj Party; the VIP gets the boat symbol back.

Patna, June 25, 2025:  In a significant development ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections 2025, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday allotted “School Bag” as the official election symbol to Jan Suraj Party, while several other regional parties including Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) also received their respective symbols.

The Jan Suraj Party, led by political strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor, welcomed the decision.

Party spokesperson said: “The first priority among the five resolutions of the Jan Suraj Party is to ensure a better education system for the children of Bihar. Keeping this in mind, we had demanded the election symbol ‘School Bag’ from the Election Commission, and we are happy that our request has been accepted. All 243 candidates of Jan Suraj will contest the elections on this symbol.”

VIP reclaims emotional symbol from election commission:

The Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), led by Mukesh Sahani, has regained its original symbol—the boat VIP’s national spokesperson Dev Jyoti expressed gratitude to the ECI, stating: “This is a victory of Bhim Rao Ambedkar’s Constitution. In the last Lok Sabha elections, we were allotted the purse symbol. But now, after fulfilling the required conditions, we have regained the boat symbol which holds emotional and historic value for our party.”

Since its inception, VIP has been identified with the boat symbol. In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, the party contested with this symbol and won four seats.

Other party symbols also announced by the election commission:

Along with Jan Suraj and VIP, several other smaller parties received election symbols including Rashtriya Lok Morcha(RLM), led by Upendra Kushwaha, who has been allotted the LPG cylinder symbol.

Bhartiya Sarthak Party received the scissors symbol, Lohia Janata Dal was given the bucket symbol, Jan Salamati Party was allotted the lady’s purse symbol, Bhartiya Janata Samaj Sevak Party received the flute symbol and Rashtriya Samajwadi Log Adhikar Party was assigned the ring symbol.

The allocation of election symbols marks a critical step in preparing for the high-stakes Bihar Assembly elections scheduled for 2025, where both established and emerging parties are gearing up for a competitive battle.
