The centre asked the Bihar government to prepare the DPR of two E-ways.

Patna June 12: After the formation of the Narendra Modi government in the centre, the Union Road Transport and Highway Ministry has asked the Bihar government to prepare and submit the Detail Project Report (DPR) of Raxaul-Haldia and Gorakhpur-Kishanganj-Siliguri expressway projects without a delay.

These two expressway projects have been pending for a long time. Bihar has a big contribution to the formation NDA government in the centre. Through this, it looks like the Narendra Modi government wants to give a return gift to Bihar to change the fortune of this poor state.  

“The construction of high-speed corridors will pick up the pace of development in many districts of Bihar and will help make the country developed,” said Vijay Kumar Sinha, the Deputy CM cum Road Construction Minister of the Bihar government.

“The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has asked to prepare the DPR of Gorakhpur-Kishanganj-Siliguri and Raxaul-Haldia Expressway without delay,” Sinha said.

“The central ministry has set a target that the work of 100-100 km section of both expressways will be started in this financial year. DPR of both the expressways was being prepared under the Bharatmala project but it was in the cold storage for the last few years,” he said.

The central government has set the goal of the vision of a developed India by 2047. So under that, 5077 km of expressways have been approved under Bharatmala Project 2, in which both the expressways of Bihar have been included.

The length of Raxaul to Haldia will be 719 km. Apart from Bihar, it will also connect Jharkhand and West Bengal. This High-Speed Corridor will pass through East Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Jamui and Banka districts of Bihar.

The length of the Gorakhpur-Kishanganj-Siliguri Expressway is 521 km. This expressway starting from Uttar Pradesh will go to West Bengal’s Siliguri city crossing the entire North Bihar. This expressway will also connect to Gorakhpur-Panipat Express. In such a situation, it will have direct connectivity to Kishanganj and Siliguri via Gorakhpur.

The Gorakhpur-Siliguri High-Speed Corridor will pass through West Champaran, East Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Purnea and Kishanganj districts.

“Both corridors are also important for the strategic needs of the country. There is an immense possibility of development in the areas of Bihar through which it will pass because many of these districts are very backward. The picture of Bihar will change with both expressways,” Sinha said.
