Patna, May 23, 2024: The high-pitched election campaign for the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections in Bihar concluded on Thursday at 5 pm, setting the stage for polling on May 25 across eight constituencies of the state.

86 candidates are in fray for the sixth phase of the election:

According to the Election Commission of India, a total of 86 candidates are contesting in this sixth phase—78men and 8 women—across Vaishali, Maharajganj, Purvi Champaran, Paschim Champaran, Siwan, Sheohar, Gopalganj (SC-reserved) and Valmiki Nagar constituencies.

Vaishali, a keen battle is on the cards between sitting MP and LJP (Ram Vilas) candidate Veena Devi, who belongs to the Rajput community, and RJD’s strongman Munna Shukla, a Bhumihar leader. The contest here has drawn attention for its caste dynamics as well as for being one of the more polarized seats of this phase.

Maharajganj, The BJP has once again reposed faith in its sitting MP Janardan Singh Sigriwal, while the Grand Alliance has fielded Akash Singh, son of Bihar Congress president Akhilesh Prasad Singh, as the Congress candidate.

Purvi Champaran, Veteran BJP leader and Union Minister Radha Mohan Singh, is looking to defend his seat against Rajesh Kumar Kushwaha of the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), who is contesting as the Grand Alliance nominee. Singh has maintained a winning streak here for several terms, making this a prestige battle for the BJP.

Paschim Champaran, Former Bihar BJP president Sanjay Jaiswal is seeking re-election, facing Congress candidate Madan Mohan Tiwari. The seat has long been a BJP stronghold, but the Congress is aiming to consolidate anti-incumbency votes.

Siwan, this constituency is witnessing one of the most interesting triangular contests in the state. JD-U’s Vijayalakshmi Kushwaha, wife of former MLA Ramesh Kushwaha, faces RJD’s Awadh Bihari Choudhary, a former Speaker of the Bihar Assembly. Adding a twist, Hina Shahab, widow of late RJD strongman Mohammad Shahabuddin, is contesting as an independent candidate, making the contest unpredictable.

Sheohar, The contest here has taken a dramatic turn with RJD’s Ritu Jaiswal taking on Lovely Anand, wife of former MP Anand Mohan Singh, who is contesting on a JD-U ticket. The presence of AIMIM’s Rana Ranjit Singh and independent Yogi Akhileshwar Das adds more color, though the main fight is expected between JD-U and RJD.

Valmiki Nagar, JD-U’s Sunil Kumar Kushwaha, has been renominated from this constituency, while RJD has fielded Deepak Yadav, a sugar mill owner, to challenge him.

Gopalganj (SC reserved), JD-U’s sitting MP Alok Kumar Suman is contesting for a second term. He faces Premnath Chanchal of the VIP, who is the Grand Alliance’s candidate here.

Polling for the sixth phase on May 25:
