The Nitish Kumar government finalized an international airport in Sonpur:
Among the major decisions, Nitish Kumar’s cabinet approved the construction of a new international airport in Sonpur, located in Saran district.
The proposed Greenfield airport will be developed on 4,200 acres of land in the Dariyapur Chanwar area, situated between Hajipur and Sumaria.
The airport is targeted for completion by 2030.
Its runway will be designed to accommodate large aircraft, including the Airbus A380, one of the world’s largest passenger planes.
Following the airport’s inclusion in the Union Budget, the Bihar government has fast-tracked the project.
The cabinet approved Rs 1,302 crore for land acquisition.
Saran BJP Lok Sabha MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy welcomed the decision and expressed gratitude to the centre and the state leadership.
“Bihar has received South Asia’s largest airport. I am grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and all those who supported this historic decision,” Rudy said.
Rs 70crore anti-erosion project for Bhagalpur:
The cabinet also approved a Rs 70 crore anti-erosion project in the Ismilepur-Bindtola area to protect Bhagalpur from recurring erosion caused by the Ganga River.
The Water Resources Department has prepared an action plan, as large parts of Bhagalpur face severe erosion and flooding every year.
During the budget session on February 6, the cabinet of the Nitish Kumar government had approved 17 proposals.
These decisions collectively reflect the government’s focus on infrastructure expansion and social welfare across Bihar.
