Patna, November 13, 2025: A day before the counting of votes for the Bihar Assembly elections, tension gripped Sasaram in Rohtas district after Candidates from the Grand Alliance, along with their supporters, created a ruckus outside the strong room.
The counting of votes for seven assembly constituencies in Rohtas is scheduled for November 14 at the Market Committee premises located at Takiya Bazaar in Sasaram.
The disturbance erupted when Grand Alliance candidates claimed that the CCTV cameras inside the strong room had stopped working, and a truck entered the premises without prior checking on Wednesday evening.
RJD leaders sat on a Dharna outside the strong room:
Soon after, RJD candidates Rajesh Yadav (Dinara) and Satyendra Sah (Sasaram) reached the spot with their supporters and began shouting slogans against the district administration. They later sat on a Dharna outside the strong room, alleging a conspiracy to replace EVMs.
“A truck has entered the strong room premises. Despite repeated complaints, the administration is unwilling to listen. The CCTV camera was switched off, clearly foul play is underway,” said Rajesh Yadav, RJD candidate, Dinara Assembly constituency.
“Why did the truck enter the strong room at night? The CCTV is off. This is a conspiracy. The Grand Alliance is winning all seven seats in Rohtas, and this is happening out of fear of defeat,” said Satyendra Sah, RJD candidate of Sasaram Assembly constituency.
District administration clarified that the truck was carrying empty boxes:
Following the commotion, District Magistrate Udita Singh and SP Roshan Kumar rushed to the spot with additional forces. The truck was inspected and found to contain only empty boxes.
DM Udita Singh clarified that the boxes were meant for storing EVMs after counting and that their arrival had been delayed from November 10.
The boxes have been checked, and all are empty. However, if there is any doubt, the CCTV footage will also be examined,” Singh said.
Despite the explanation, the protesting candidates questioned why the truck was brought in late at night. Though the boxes were checked in front of them, suspicion persisted, and supporters continued protesting late into the night.
The Grand Alliance leaders maintained that they were confident of winning all seven seats in Rohtas and accused the administration of trying to manipulate EVMs out of fear of defeat.
The incident has heightened political tension in the district ahead of the November 14 vote count. The administration, meanwhile, has assured that counting will take place peacefully under tight security.
