Patna, May 26, 2024: Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of spreading confusion over the issues of reservation, the Constitution, and caste census.

Posting the letter on X (formerly Twitter), Tejashwi said the Prime Minister visits Bihar only during elections and “tries unsuccessfully to confuse people.”

“You shall remember that leaders of all political parties of Bihar met you in August 2021 and demanded a caste census. The proposal was passed unanimously in the Bihar Assembly on my initiative, but you rejected it,” Yadav wrote.

Tejashwi Yadav promised for the caste-based survey:

He added that once the Grand Alliance came to power, the Bihar government conducted a caste-based survey at its own expense and increased the reservation limit to 75%, later urging the Centre to include it in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution.

“You ignored our request, which had a strong Bahujan voice behind it. This shows you’re anti-backward and anti-Dalit mentality,” he said, adding that even Home Minister Amit Shah was reminded of the issue during the eastern Regional Council meeting in Patna in December 2023.

Referring to PM Modi’s recent remarks during a Bihar rally, Tejashwi said, “You used terms like Mujra, Buffalo, and Mangalsutra—language not befitting the dignity of the Prime Minister. We are worried about you. Please reflect on whether such language suits your position.”

The RJD leader further accused Modi of “finding a unique way to end Baba Saheb’s reservation” by reducing government jobs.

“If jobs in railways, the army, and other departments vanish, what will happen to reservations under Articles 15 and 16? We have urged the Centre to extend reservation to the private sector as well,” he said.

Tejashwi Yadav challenged the Prime Minister to disagree with the RSS ideology:

Tejashwi Yadav also questioned the free ration scheme, claiming it is “a constitutional right of citizens, not a gift,” and criticized Modi’s “anti-poor” attitude.

He challenged the Prime Minister to publicly distance himself from RSS ideologue M. S. Golwalkar’s book ‘Bunch of Thoughts’ and support reservation for all backward, extremely backward, Dalit, and Tribal groups in the private sector.

“Can you say you disagree with that book? If not, the public will understand that your falling speech standards reflect your political thinking,” Yadav said.

Referring to the Mandal Commission protests in 1990, Tejashwi alleged, “You were the charioteer of the anti-reservation yatra alongside L. K. Advani. The Bahujan and Dalit communities can never forget that.”

He also claimed that Muslim castes receive OBC reservations in Gujarat, saying, “You were Chief Minister there for 13 years. Perhaps you are unaware of this. So stop spreading confusion and hatred.”

Ending his letter, Tejashwi accused Modi of “threatening to jail a 34-year-old youth” and warned, “Elections will come and go, but do not tear apart the Constitution and the country’s social fabric.”
