Patna, July 11, 2025: A day after the Supreme Court suggested the ECI to consider Aadhar Card, and other documents in the ongoing SIR of the voter list in Bihar, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav expressed satisfaction, terming it a relief for voters.
“I sincerely thank the Supreme Court of India for its suggestion to the Election Commission. We have been saying the same thing—why Aadhar Card, Ration Card, MNAREGA Job Card, Voter ID Card and other documents are not included in the voter list revision. The apex court has suggested exactly this, and we are thankful,” Tejashwi Yadav said.
The Supreme Court, during the Thursday hearing on petitions challenging the SIR in Bihar, also clarified that the ECI has no authority to decide on the citizenship of any individual, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Home Ministry.
Tejashwi Yadav has been raising this issue ever since the SIR was announced by the Election Commission on June 24, 2025.
Other Grand Alliance leaders expressed satisfaction over the SC suggestion besides Tejashwi Yadav:
Dipankar Bhattacharya, the National General Secretary of CPI-ML, also welcomed the apex court’s observation, calling it an important step toward protecting the constitutional rights of voters, especially the poor and marginalized.
