Patna, November 17, 2025: RJD National President Lalu Prasad Yadav on Monday officially appointed Tejashwi Yadav as the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly.

The decision was announced during a review meeting held in Patna to assess the party’s performance in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly elections.

With the announcement, speculation over Tejashwi Yadav’s future role has come to an end.

Lalu Prasad Yadav made it clear that the party will continue its political journey under Tejashwi’s leadership.

Tejashwi Yadav reportedly offered to step down from the top post:

Sources from the meeting revealed that Tejashwi Yadav initially expressed his desire to work as an ordinary party worker, but his suggestion was unanimously rejected by senior leaders, MLAs and former MLAs.

They strongly urged him to continue as Leader of the Opposition, citing their full confidence in his leadership abilities.

Accepting the collective appeal, Lalu Prasad Yadav immediately approved Tejashwi’s continuation in the role.

Addressing the leaders, Lalu Prasad said, “The internal dispute will be resolved by the internal people, so you need not worry.”

His remarks helped settle any lingering leadership concerns and reinforced his central role in maintaining party unity.

Party leaders have been asked to play a role of strong opposition:

Following the meeting, the RJD issued clear directions to its MLAs to play a strong and effective role inside the Assembly.

The review meeting also included an in-depth analysis of the party’s electoral setbacks.

Leaders expressed concern over insufficient communication with voters, particularly women and youth.

Several leaders alleged that rival parties influenced women voters by offering large sums of money, an issue that the party intends to examine further.

With Yadav’s leadership reaffirmed, the RJD has decided to move forward by addressing organizational weaknesses, reconnecting with voters at the grassroots, and preparing to vigorously raise public issues in the Assembly.
