Tejashwi Yadav questions the credibility of the Election Commission’s voter list revision process in Bihar.

Patna, July 13, 2025: Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav launched a sharp attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI) over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Voter list in Bihar, alleging large-scale irregularities, fake data uploads, and violations of Supreme Court advisories.

Addressing a joint press conference of India Mahagatnbandhan partners at his residence, Tejashwi claimed: “The ECI’s claim of 80.11% form submission does not reflect reality on the ground. Forms are being uploaded using fake thumb impressions and signatures, often without voters’ knowledge or consent.”

Key allegations by Tejashwi Yadav:

Tejashwi Yadav alleged that BLOs are under verbal pressure to meet targets by July 25, leading to hurried uploads of forms without documents, signatures, or thumb impressions.

He questions how many of the forms have been verified or cross-checked with Aadhaar, alleging that the ECI has not clarified the authenticity of the uploaded data.

Despite the Supreme Court advising flexibility in document acceptance (Aadhar, Ration Card, Voter ID), the ECI has not issued revised notifications, creating confusion among BLOs and voters.

Voters are not receiving receipts or acknowledgement upon submission of forms, making it impossible to track submission status or corrections.

Tejashwi Yadav highlighted persistent technical issues such as server downtime. OTP failures and document upload errors, with no help or ticketing system for voters or BLOs.

He questioned how the ECI was uploading data of an estimated 4 crore migrants from Bihar who have not returned to the state during the revision process.

The Mahagathbandhan has demanded a live, assembly-wise dashboard and daily updates for transparency, which have not been implemented.

Political angle and tough warning:

Tejashwi Yadav alleged that the voter revision process is being manipulated under the BJP and PM Modi’s instructions to distort the electoral rolls ahead of the assembly elections.

“This is not Gujarat, this is Bihar—the mother of democracy. We will not allow the ruling party to weaken the democratic process or snatch the voting rights of the deprived and neglected,” he said.

Tejashwi Yadav warned of a tough fight if irregularities are not corrected, asserting that “Mahagathbandhan is fully alert and prepared.”

Call for ECI accountability:

Tejashwi Yadav concluded that while the ECI’s press release may reflect “numerical self-satisfaction,” It fails to address real concerns regarding transparency, voters’ rights, and public trust.

“The ECI’s silence on these issues is becoming an example of turning a blind eye, which is dangerous for Indian democracy,” he said.
