Tejashwi Yadav congratulated Prem Kumar, stressing impartiality and a strong opposition role.

Patna, December 2, 2025: Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday congratulated senior BJP leader Prem Kumar on being unanimously elected as the Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly.

Speaking in the House, Yadav said that Prem Kumar’s long experience reflects his political maturity and deep commitment to public issues.”

“We are here not merely for ceremonial purposes, but with the resolve to make Bihar a leading state,” he said.

Reaffirming expectations from the Chair, Tejashwi Yadav reminded the Speaker that he hails from Gaya, the land of knowledge and salvation, and that the post requires absolute impartiality and adherence to established rules.

Tejashwi Yadav urged the speaker to pay special attention to the opposition’s rights:

Pointing to the NDA’s numerical strength in the House, he said the Speaker must pay special attention to safeguarding the rights and space of the Opposition to maintain democratic balance.

Tejashwi Yadav stated firmly, “The opposition is also a part of the government. We have no personal hostility towards anyone. But if the government deviates from public interest or makes a mistake, we will strongly hold it accountable.”

Reiterating his broader vision, Tejashwi Yadav said, “We have only one objective, to build a new Bihar, free from unemployment, migration, and poverty.”

He added that the Opposition would support every positive step for Bihar’s development, but ignoring the rights of the people will not be tolerated.”

He also extended good wishes to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, assuring that the Grand Alliance would continue to play the role of responsible and vigilant opposition.

Prem Kumar elected speaker; CM  and Tejashwi Yadav escorted him to the chair:

Earlier in the day, BJP leader and nine-time MLA from Gaya Sadar, Prem Kumar, was elected unopposed as speaker of the Bihar Assembly.

After his election, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav jointly escorted him to the Speaker’s chair, a rare show of unity on the Assembly floor.

Congratulating him, Nitish Kumar said Prem Kumar has long legislative experience and has served the state with distinction.

The Chief Minister requested all members to stand and felicitate him, following which MLAs from all parties rose to congratulate the newly elected speaker.
