Patna, August 5, 2025: In a bold rebuttal to the Election Commission’s notice over his alleged possession of dual EPIC (Electors Photo Identity Card) numbers, RJD leader and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi said he will respond to the EC’s notice—but also demanded answers from the Commission regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar.

Speaking to the media in Patna, Tejashwi Yadav confirmed he had received the EC’s notice.

“Yes, I will answer the notice, but the Election Commission must also answer the serious concerns we raised earlier. Why is the Commission avoiding accountability?” he asked.

Tejashwi Yadav alleged widespread irregularities in the draft voter list, stating that several districts had reported fake names, names of deceased voters, and deliberate removal of voters belonging to specific communities.

He reiterated that this issue isn’t limited to political rivalry but is about safeguarding democracy.

Tejashwi Yadav said his party will knock on the door of the Supreme Court:

Tejashwi Yadav further announced that the RJD and other Mahagathbandhan allies will submit documents and evidence to the Election Commission. If the issues remain unresolved, they are prepared to seek legal recourse through the Supreme Court.

He also said that the opposition parties will mount a larger public campaign against what they term as “systematic voter suppression”.

“This is not just a party’s issue, this is about the future of democracy and the sanctity of the Constitution,” Tejashwi said.

Opposition accuses EC of bias under government pressure:

RJD and other Grand Alliance parties have alleged that the Election Commission is acting under pressure from the ruling party to manipulate the voter list in several districts ahead of the Assembly elections.

The opposition claims that this manipulation disproportionately affects marginalized groups, communities considered loyal to opposition parties, youth and first-time voters.

Political observers say Tejashwi’s counter-attack aims to shift the spotlight back on the EC’s functioning, especially as Bihar heads into a high-stakes election season.
