Tejashwi Yadav calls voter list revision a conspiracy against Bihar’s poor.

Patna, June 30, 2025: Former Deputy Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav on Monday once again targeted the Election Commission of India (ECI) over the ongoing voter list revision exercise in Bihar, calling it a “clear conspiracy against the poor.”

Speaking to media persons in Jamui, Tejashwi Yadav questioned the timing, process, and document demands under the voter list revision initiative ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections.

Tejashwi Yadav said the document demands unreasonable:

“Under this initiative, the ECI is demanding documents that 90% of Bihar’s people do not have, such as birth certificates of parents. Many never had these documents, and if a person has not appeared for matriculation, how will they prove they are residents of Bihar?”

Tejashwi Yadav said about the ECI’s rejection of Aadhaar and MNREGA cards.

“The ECI is not accepting Aadhaar cards and MNREGA job cards, while earlier it claimed it would link voter cards with Aadhaar to detect bogus voters. Many people still do not even have Aadhaar cards.”

“The ECI plans to complete this entire exercise in 25 days before the elections, during monsoon when many areas are flood-affected in Bihar. People struggling with floods cannot prepare documents to prove residence,” he said.

Tejashwi Yadav asked why not post-Lok Sabha polls:

“If the ECI had planned such an initiative, why was it not done right after the Lok Sabha elections? Why now, in such a short period before assembly elections?” he asked.

Tejashwi further targeted the BJP over its claims that the exercise will help detect bogus voters, saying: “The BJP claims this initiative will detect bogus voters. The same voter list was used during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, in which NDA won. Does this mean NDA won using bogus votes? If so, PM Modi should resign.”

Tejashwi Yadav emphasized that even after the announcement, forms have not been distributed to voters, raising doubts over the feasibility of completing the exercise fairly.
