Patna, August 14, 2024: Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the opposition in the Bihar assembly, took a dig at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for the latter’s pet line, he neither saves anyone nor frames anyone.

While referring to the acquittal of Anant Singh, Tejashwi Yadav said: “When Anant Singh was with us, he was a criminal, and now he is with them, then he is acquitted. What is a big deal in it? People are clearly seeing how many people are saved and how many are framed,” Tejashwi Yadav said.

The statement of Tejashwi Yadav came at a time when the Patna High Court acquitted Anant Singh in an arms act and explosive act case of 2019. He was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by the MP-MLA court in June 2022, but the Patna High Court turned down that decision and acquitted him due to a lack of evidence on Wednesday.

Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar, always says that he neither protects nor frames anyone.

The remark of Tejashwi Yadav came to counter this line of Nitish Kumar.

Anant Singh, the former MLA of Mokama, contested the 2020 assembly election on the RJD ticket and won the election. However, he was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment in June 2022 in a case under the Arms Act.

Patna police seized an AK-47 assault rifle, 22 live cartridges and 2 hand grenades during the raid at his ancestral house in Ladma village under Barh subdivision in Patna district on August 16, 2019.

After his conviction, Singh lost membership in the legislative assembly. When the bye-poll on the Mokama assembly seat was held in 2023, his wife Neelam Devi won the contest as an RJD candidate.

During the trust vote of the Nitish Kumar government on February 12 this year, she shifted her side from RJD to JD (U) and supported Nitish Kumar.

During the Lok Sabha election, Anant Singh was given parole for 15 days. At that time, opposition leaders alleged that Nitish Kumar was behind his parole, and now, when Anant Singh was acquitted at Patna High Court, Tejashwi Yadav has hinted that Nitish Kumar’s influence worked here.

“It is a decision of the court, and we respect the decision. We cannot make any statement about the court decision,” said Shrawan Kumar, the cabinet minister of the Bihar government under the JD (U) quota.
