Patna, August 2, 2025: A major political controversy erupted in Bihar on Monday after Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav claimed that his name had been deleted from the voter list,++ just months ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections. Terming it a “dangerous conspiracy against democracy,” Tejashwi Yadav demanded Supreme Court intervention and raised serious allegations against the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Speaking at a press conference in Patna, Tejashwi said: “If my name can be removed from the voter list, imagine the plight of millions of voters in Bihar.
The Election Commission has become a Godi commission. With the support of two Gujarati leaders, they are doing whatever they please. But when the time comes, everyone will be held accountable.”
EC and DEO deny allegations of Tejashwi Yadav:
Tejashwi Yadav’s claims were immediately refuted by the Election Commission and Patna District Administration, which asserted that his name was never removed from the official records.
They termed the accusation as baseless and misleading.
Samrat Chaudhary hits back at Tejashwi Yadav:
Responding sharply to the allegations, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary launched a scathing counterattack, alleging that Tejashwi Yadav is listed as a voter list at two different locations—a potential offense under election laws.
“Tejashwi Yadav has voted using EPIC number RAB0456228 from the Digha Assembly constituency in every election from 2015 to 2025. This record is publicly available. Now he is suddenly talking about another EPIC number, RAB2916120. Where did this come from?”

Chaudhary further questioned, “Does Tejashwi Yadav have two voter ID cards? Is this an isolated mistake or a deliberate act involving the entire RJD organization? If double entries exist, it is not just fraud, it is a betrayal of democracy. This must be investigated at a high level.”
A War of claims and counterclaims:
While Tejashwi Yadav demanded that the EC make public the names deleted from voter lists across all booths and constituencies, Samrat Chaudhary insisted that this issue has exposed the real misconduct of the RJD leader.
The incident has intensified political tensions in Bihar, with both ruling and opposition camps accusing each other of manipulating the democratic process.
Tejashwi’s direct attack on the EC and Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, coupled with Chaudhary’s allegations of voter ID fraud, has shifted the discourse from mere technical lapses to a serious charge of electoral malpractice.
With the assembly elections looming, this controversy is expected to escalate.
Legal experts suggest that if Tejashwi Yadav is indeed found to have two active EPIC numbers, he could face criminal investigation.

On the other hand, if his claims of voter list deletion are validated, it could lead to mass scrutiny of voter data integrity in the state.
Either way, the credibility of the electoral process and the neutrality of the Election Commission are now under sharp public and political scrutiny.
