Patna, August 13, 2025: RJD leader that the Election Commission of India (ECI) Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday said he was unaware) had cancelled one of his Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers, terming the move arbitrary and unexplained.
“I was not aware of when the Election Commission cancelled my one EPIC number. The Election Commission did it without my knowledge. It’s up to them to explain this matter,” Yadav told reporters in Patna.
The controversy first surfaced on August 2, when Yadav, during a press conference, demonstrated that his EPIC number was no longer visible on the Election Commission’s website and mobile app.
Soon after, the Patna Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) cum Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) served him two notices directing him to surrender one EPIC number.
Tejashwi Yadav submitted his reply to the Electoral Registration Officer-cum-SDM on August 8.
Tejashwi Yadav pointed out large- scale irregularities in SIR:
Yadav also reiterated his allegations of large-scale irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. “We have raised several irregularities before the Election Commission, but neither the Chief Election Commissioner of India nor the Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar has responded.
They are not holding press conferences-perhaps top BJP leaders are preventing them from interacting with the media,” he alleged.
Claiming that the BJP was misusing the poll body, he added, “Earlier the BJP used agencies like the ED and CBI, now it is using the Election Commission.”
Tejashwi Yadav claimed he had pointed out two EPIC numbers of Vijay Sinha:
The RJD leader further pointed out that his party had also flagged the issue of Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha allegedly holding two EPIC numbers.
“Sinha’s name appeared in Voter lists of two districts, but to my knowledge, the district administration of only one district has served him notice,” Yadav said.
Tejashwi Yadav also accused the BJP’s Bihar in-charge Khikhu Bhai Dalsania of being registered as a voter in Bihar despite being from Gujarat.
“In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he voted in Gujarat, removed his name from there, and now he will vote in Patna. After the elections, he might again get his name removed here and vote in Gujarat,” he claimed.
