Patna, January 6, 2026: Janshakti Janata Dal chief Tej Pratap Yadav is set to organize a Chura-Dahi feast on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, a move that has generated both social and political buzz in Bihar.
Tej Pratap Yadav has decided to invite several prominent personalities to the event.
Tej Pratap is carrying the legacy of his father:
Despite having recently distanced himself from both his party and his family, he appears keen to protect himself as a torchbearer of his father Lalu Prasad Yadav’s political and social legacy.
For decades, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav has hosted a Chura-Dahi feast every year on Makar Sankranti.
The event has traditionally symbolized social harmony and political camaraderie, with participation from leaders across party lines and people from all sections of society.
Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav will also be formally invited to the event. Invitations are being sent to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha.
Clarifying the purpose of the gathering, Tej Pratap Yadav said the event is rooted purely in social and cultural traditions.
He noted that Makar Sankranti is traditionally celebrated with flattened rice, curd, jiggery, and sesame sweets, and the feast is being organized in keeping with these customs.
He added that invitation cards are being distributed openly, and anyone from across Bihar who wishes to attend is welcome.
The feast has deeper political implications:
However, political observers are drawing deeper implications from the event.
The growing distance between Tej Pratap Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav has now become increasingly visible.
At the same time, Tej Pratap’s perceived proximity to leaders of the BJP and other NDA leaders has also been a subject of intense discussion.
