Patna, September 13, 2025: Tej Pratap Yadav, the elder son of former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, on Saturday formally announced the launch of his own political party ahead of the upcoming Bihar assembly elections 2025.

The party, named Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD), was originally registered in 2020 and has now been allotted the “blackboard” symbol by the Election Commission.

Addressing a massive gathering of thousands of supporters, Tej Pratap Yadav also unveiled plans to form a new alliance called the “Bihar Alliance.”

Tej Pratap Yadav said he is not hungry for the CM post.

Dismissing questions about his chief Ministerial ambitions, Tej Pratap said, “I am not hungry for the post of Chief Minister. The whole of Bihar is my family.”

On a question regarding the Voter Adhikar Yatra, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother was dragged into political discourse, Tej Pratap Yadav said, “There should be no politics on mother—whether it is Congress or BJP/ whoever does politics on this will be cursed by God.”

Rift with family and RJD expulsion:

Tej Pratap’s political move comes after his expulsion from RJD and the Lalu family for six years, earlier this year, following the circulation of photographs with a woman named Anushka Yadav on social media.

Since then, he has been seen building his own political base, actively engaging in relief and social work in Raghopur, the assembly constituency of his younger brother and Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav.

Tej Pratap announced that he would contest the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections from Mahua constituency, a seat he had represented earlier.

His independent outreach and new party are now being seen as a direct challenge to RJD’s traditional vote base.
