New Delhi, August 8: Team India defeated Spain by 2-1 in a thrilling hockey encounter in Paris Olympics 2024 on Thursday.

With this, the Indian hockey team secured the bronze medal for the country.

Team India made a great comeback after losing to Germany in the semi-finals. The Indian players performed brilliantly and won the fourth bronze medal in the Olympics. With this, the Indian hockey team gave a great farewell to legend PR Sreejesh.

Team India started aggressively in this match. As a result, team India missed two goals in the first quarter. The Indian hockey players had possession of the ball for most of the time. But in this quarter, there were some critical opportunities that they could not capitalize on.

However, Indian player Sanjay also got hit by the ball in the head due to which he had to sit out. India showed an attacking display of hockey in this quarter. The first quarter ended with a score of 0-0.

In the last 10 seconds, Harmanpreet Singh scored a goal and made a comeback. By the end of the second half, the score was tied at 1-1.

After half-time in the third quarter, India started attacking brilliantly. Once again, Indian player Harmanpreet Singh scored a powerful goal in the 33rd minute of the match and gave India the lead. After this goal, India took a 2-1 lead and kept India’s hopes of bronze medal alive. India got a penalty corner in the 34th minute. India performed brilliantly and did not let the opposing team emerge. They maintained a 2-1 lead over Spain till the third quarter.

When India came to play in the fourth quarter, it could only see the bronze medal. India continued to play brilliantly in the fourth quarter and did not let Spain come into attacking mode and continued to attack itself. Goalkeeper PR Sreejesh saved a brilliant goal in his last match and kept India in the lead. In the last few minutes of the match, the Indian team came into defense mode and converted the lead into victory by just completing the time.

Team India also won a bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
