Patna, September 22, 2025: Bihar Education Minister Sunil Kumar on Monday announced that over 26,000 teaching posts will be filled in the fourth phase of the Teachers Recruitment Examination (TRE-4).
Sunil Kumar said the vacancy details will be submitted to the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) within the next four to five days.
Sunil Kumar claimed that 26,000 vacancies are not a small number:
“Roster clearance for two to three districts is still underway. Once the process is complete, we will forward the final list to the BPSC,” Kumar said, adding that any remaining seats will be added in TRE-5.
Sunil Kumar defended the number of vacancies, saying, “26,000 posts are not a small number. Vacancies are determined based on subject requirements and students’ strengths in schools.”
However, candidates remain dissatisfied, citing the government’s earlier promise of 1.20 lakh posts.
TRE-4 candidates are not satisfied with Sunil Kumar’s announcement:
Thousands of aspirants have been protesting for over a month, demanding a larger recruitment drive.
On September 19, protestors marched from Patna college towards the Chief Minister’s residence but were stopped by police near JP Golambar.
Despite heavy rain, the candidates staged a three-hour sit-in, shouting slogans against the government.
A delegation, including student leader Dilip Kumar, later met the additional chief secretary of the education department, after which the protest was called off for the day.
Candidates say that with limited employment opportunities in Bihar, government jobs are their only hope, accusing the state of deploying the recruitment process.
Police have lathi-charged protestors on several occasions in recent weeks as demonstrations intensified across Patna.
