State-wide Dharna of RJD will be scheduled on September 1.
Patna August 29: The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has announced a state-wide Dharna demonstration on September 1, demanding a caste-based census across the country and the inclusion of the increased 65% reservation limit in the Ninth Scheduled of the Constitution.
This state-wide Dharna will come in support of the increase in reservation, achieved during the 17-month tenure of the Grand Alliance government in Bihar.
Through this protest, RJD will target the NDA government for its negative stance on this issue.
RJD state spokesperson Chitranjan Gagan, said, “A massive state-wide Dharna demonstration will be held in front of the statues of Mahatma Gandhi or Baba Saheb Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar at the main intersections of all district headquarters of the state.”
He further said: “Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the opposition in Bihar assembly, will personally participate in the protest held in Patna.”
Gagan emphasized that Tejashwi Yadav is committed to the cause of conducting a caste-based census nationwide, believing that reservations should benefit the poor in proportion to their share and that the oppressed should receive their rightful entitlements.

The opposition parties have been continuously pressuring the central government to conduct a caste-based census across the country, a demand that has garnered support from some NDA allies as well.
Notably, Lok Janshankti Party Ram Vilas (LJPRV) led by Chirag Paswan and Anupriya Patel’s party have openly supported the call for a caste-based census. It remains to be seen whether this mounting pressure will influence the central government’s stance on the issue or not.
