Patna, May 31, 2024: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations made on social media that two EVM hackers were staying in Raj Bhawan, Patna.
The move came after an objectionable post was uploaded on Thursday, making serious allegations that Bihar Raj Bhavan had provided shelter to two individuals described as “EVM hackers.” Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar directed officials to take immediate action.
Following this, the EOU registered an FIR based on a written complaint filed by Robert L. Chongthu, Principal Secretary to the Governor, under the Representation of the People Act, the IT Act, and other relevant IPC sections. Following that, the SIT was formed to investigate the matter.
According to an EOU official, the complaint stated that “a post had been uploaded on social media regarding Raj Bhavan containing misleading and false information.”
SIT identified the alleged individual:
The person behind the post, identified as Nitesh Karthikeyan, who described himself as a Laluwadi (Laluist), alleged that two suspicious persons, identified as P. Kashyap and Dr. M. K. Bhai, were staying in Raj Bhavan “on the instruction of the Home Minister of India.”
In his post on social media platform X, Karthikeyan wrote, “On the instructions of the Home Minister of India, two EVM hackers have been made to stay in Bihar’s Raj Bhavan, Patna. It is being discussed that two suspicious persons named P. Kashyap and Dr. M. K. Bhai are staying there.”
Allegation of two suspicious individuals:
He further questioned the role of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who also holds the Home portfolio, asking, “In what capacity are these two suspicious persons staying in Raj Bhavan? Are they IAS officers or from any department? Will the Chief Minister answer this or the Election Commission?
The SIT also claimed that the two individuals were “EVM experts,” alleging their presence in Raj Bhavan was suspicious as polling in Patliputra, Patna Sahib, and Nalanda constituencies is scheduled for June 1.
The SIT said that the investigation will verify the authenticity of the claims, identify the source of misinformation, and take legal action against those involved in spreading fake news.
Meanwhile, Raj Bhavan officials have termed the allegations as baseless and politically motivated.
Karthikeyan’s social media profile contains videos and posts supporting the INDIA bloc, though no official reaction has come from the RJD or other alliance partners so far.
Raj Bhavan serves as the official residence and office of Bihar Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar.
