Patna, November 22, 2025: International shooter and BJP MLA from Jamui, Shreyasi Singh, who became a first-time minister in Nitish Kumar’s cabinet, formally assumed charge of her ministries on Saturday.
She has been entrusted with two key portfolios, Information Technology and Sports.
While taking charge, Shreyasi Singh said, “I am grateful for the confidence shown in me by the top leadership of the BJP and NDA.”
At the same time, she acknowledged the significance of her new responsibilities.
“I am happy that the top leadership has trusted me. I also realize that this department is a favourite of PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. We will work with full dedication. Every task is a challenge, but we are not afraid of challenges; we know how to face them boldly.
Shreyasi Singh hinted at bringing reforms in sports:
Drawing on her background as an elite sportsperson, Shreyasi Singh said she understands the struggles of athletes and the shortcomings in the sports ecosystem.
She assured that she would prepare a comprehensive blueprint to address these issues.
“In the coming days, better arrangements will be made for the players of Bihar,” she said.
A political journey rooted in a sporting legacy:
Shreyasi Singh’s rise in politics has been remarkable.
Hailing from Gidhaur in Jamui district, she comes from a family deeply connected with both politics and sports.
Shreyasi Singh is the daughter of former Union Minister Digvijay Singh and MP Putul Kumari.
Her grandfather, Kumar Surendra Singh, served as President of the National Rifle Association of India.
Shreyasi Singh herself has brought significant glory to India as a shooter, winning medals at the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games, and earning the Arjuna Award.
Her political debut in the 2020 Jamui Assembly elections was impressive; she defeated RJD’s Vijay Prakash by over 41,000 votes.
In the 2025 Assembly elections, she improved her margin even further, securing victory by a record 54,498 votes, defeating RJD candidate Mohammad Shamshad Alam.
