Patna, January 10, 2026: Bihar Pradesh Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief spokesperson Shakti Singh Yadav on Saturday accused the state government of conspiring to misuse the government treasury, alleging that reckless and wasteful expenditure has pushed Bihar into a massive debt trap.

Addressing a press conference in Patna, Yadav claimed that Bihar’s debt has crossed Rs 3 lakh crore, translating into a burden of approximately Rs 25,000 per person in the state.

He alleged that while the government distributed Rs 10,000 to women to gain an electoral advantage, it has remained silent on its promise of depositing Rs 2 lakh in women’s bank accounts.

Shakti Singh Yadav claimed the financial burden is beyond the state’s capacity:

Shakti Singh Yadav said that fulfilling the promise of providing Rs 2 lakh to women would impose an additional financial burden of Rs 2.70 lakh crore on the state.

He further added that an additional Rs 1.05 lakh crore would be required for salaries.

“Together, this amounts to Rs 3.45 lakh crore, while Bihar’s total annual budget is barely Rs 3 lakh crore. This clearly exposes the government’s false promises and financial mismanagement,” he said.

He demanded that the government issue a white paper on the expenditure of the state treasury to inform the people of Bihar about the real financial situation.

Yadav also questioned the government’s proposal to demolish and rebuild Bihar Niwas, calling it unnecessary and suspicious.

“Bihar Niwas is only 32 years old and is structurally strong. The government must clarify why there is a need to demolish such a building,” he said.

He alleged that the real motive behind the demolition is to remove the plaque bearing the name of former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav.

“The ruling party is clearly uncomfortable with the name of Lalu Prasad Yadav. The government treasury does not belong to any individual. Demolishing a strong building and constructing a new one out of envy and jealousy reflects the ruling party’s animosity towards Lalu Prasad Yadav,” Yadav said.

He pointed out that Bihar Niwas was built in New Delhi in 1994, while Bihar Bhawan is nearly 90 years old, and Bihar Sadan, he remarked, “looks like a matchbox.”

Call for development priorities:

Shakti Singh Yadav questioned why the government is not focusing on building an education hub in Bihar instead of spending heavily on demolition and reconstruction.

“Due to jealousy and political vendetta, attempts are being made to erase the identity of Bihar Niwas. Nitish Kumar’s associates want their names on foundation stones, which is why they are talking about demolition,” he alleged.

Calling the move a conspiracy of misuse of the state treasury, Yadav said the Rashtriya Janata Dal will take the issue to the people.

“The RJD is committed to protecting the state treasury and will expose this conspiracy before the public,” he asserted.
