Schools closed up to class 8 in Muzaffarpur till January 7 due to severe cold.

Patna, January 4, Muzaffarpur District Magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen has issued an important order to close the schools due to the cold wave and consistently falling minimum temperatures in the district.

As a precautionary measure, academic activities for students up to Class 8 have been suspended from January 5 to January 7, 2026, in all government and private schools across the district.

Schools above class 8 exempted from the order:

According to the order, students of classes above Class 8 will be allowed to attend school only between 10.00 am to 3.30 pm during this period.

The District Magistrate noted that prolonged exposure to extreme cold can adversely affect children’s health, particularly younger students, prompting the administration to take preventive action.

It is noteworthy that earlier, under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Defence Code 2023, academic activities for pre-schools, Anganwadi centres and classes up to Class 8 in all government and private schools of Muzaffarpur district had been suspended until December 28 due to the cold wave.

Officials have been asked to strictly implement the order:

To ensure strict compliance, the District Magistrate has directed the District Education Officer, all Sub-Divisional Officers, Block Development Officers, Station House Officers, and school managements to effectively implement the order.

However, special classes and examination preparation have been exempted, so that students’ academic progress is not adversely affected.

All schools have been instructed to pay special attention to the safety, health, and comfort of students to make necessary arrangements to protect them from cold weather.

The administration has warned that strict action will be taken against schools violating the order.

The District Magistrate has also appealed to parents to prioritize their children’s health, ensure they wear adequate warm clothing, and follow all necessary precautions during the cold wave.
