Patna June 12: Amid intense heat and high humidity in Bihar, Patna’s District Magistrate S Kapil Ashok directed all schools and coaching institutions to shut their educational activities for the next three days.

He further said that the situation will be analyzed on June 15 and then take further decision.
The rays of the sun are scorching the human body with their intense heat. The high humidity in the atmosphere is making things even worse. The temperature is felt to be 10 degrees Celsius higher than the actual temperature due to high humidity. The maximum temperature in Patna has been remaining 43-46 degrees for the last few days.
In the instruction letter issued by Patna DM, it has been said that in view of the heat wave alert issued by the Meteorological Center of the Government of India, all the schools and coaching centers of the state have been declared holidays from June 13 to June 15. The District Magistrate further said coaching institutes can conduct their classes through online mediums during this period.
“In the light of the weather department’s forecast, there is a possibility of students falling ill due to the heat wave. In view of this, all the educational institutions and coaching institutes of the district will remain closed from June 13 to June 15,” Ashok said.
“The met department has issued a heat wave alert in Bihar for the next 48 hours. There is a red alert in the districts of North West, South West and South Central Bihar, while there is a yellow alert in other districts. In this season, there is a need to follow the instructions given by the Disaster Management Department regarding protection from heat,” said Anand Shankar, Meteorologist of the Meteorological Center Patna.
Meanwhile, around 400 patients suffering from heat strokes, diarrhea, stomachache and headaches reached the sub-divisional hospital Masaudhi in Patna district on Wednesday. Besides Masaudhi, patients are reaching other government and private hospitals for treatment as well.
“Majority of the patients who were coming to the hospital are suffering from heat stroke. We have advised them to avoid going out in the scorching sun. Consume liquids. Eat easily digestible and vitamin-rich food. Cold food should not be eaten. A heat wave ward has been permanently set up in our hospital,” said Dr Sanjita Rani, in charge of Masaudhi sub-divisional hospital.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar directed all district magistrates and civil surgeons to ensure adequate arrangements of medicines in the hospitals of their respective districts. He also directed the power distribution companies to ensure electricity supply round the clock in the state.
