Patna, January 8, 2026: Bihar BJP state president and former minister Sanjay Saraogi on Thursday criticized the opposition for protesting against the renaming of the MGNREGA scheme to ‘Viksit Bharat G Ramji,’ alleging that the objections stem from political motives rather than concern for public welfare.
Addressing party workers during a felicitation ceremony at the BJP office in Samastipur, Saraogi said the NDA government had introduced a new bill and launched the ‘Viksit Bharat G Ramji’ scheme to address loopholes and corruption that plagued the MGNREGA program. He alleged that the opposition’s protest was driven by its objection to the name of Lord Ram.
Sanjay Saraogi pointed out irregularities in MGNREGA:
The old MGNREGA scheme had several shortcomings and was riddled with corruption. In many places, it existed only on paper.
Payments were made by merely shifting soil from one pit to another and then back again,” Saraogi claimed.
He said that under the new scheme, additional development works have been included in line with the vision of a developed India. “The new initiative will ensure genuine and balanced development in both rural and urban areas,” he added.
Sanjay Saraogi asserted that the NDA government is committed to transparency and effective governance, which is why existing schemes are being reformed to deliver real benefits to the people.
This was Saraogi’s first visit to the Samastipur party office after assuming charge as the BJP state president.
On the occasion, he was accorded a warm welcome by party leaders, including MLC Tarun Chaudhary, district president Neelam Sinha, Ramsumaran Singh, Dr Vijay Singh, and several senior BJP leaders and workers.
Agriculture minister targets opposition:
Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Ram Kripal Yadav also launched a sharp attack on the opposition over the ‘Viksit Bharat G Ramji’ scheme. He alleged that the Congress party was opposing the initiative because it would curb corruption.
“The opposition is uneasy because this scheme will put an end to corrupt practices,” Yadav said.
