Samastipur division collected fines of Rs 15.5 crores in the last three months.

Patna, June 28, 2024: Under its ongoing ticket-checking drive, the Samastipur division of East Central division of East Central Railway has collected fines amounting to Rs 15.5 crore in the last three months of the 2024-25 financial year.

Over 2 lakh passengers travelled illegally in trains in the Samastipur division:

According to the data released by the Public Relations Office of the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) up to June 25, penalties were imposed on 2.09 lakh passengers found travelling without tickets or without proper authority.

An official of the Samastipur division said special checking teams have been deployed across almost all sections of the division, and action is being taken not only against fully ticketless travellers but also against those traveling in Air-conditioned and sleeper coaches without a valid authority.

“We have been conducting ticket-checking for the last few months, and it will continue. Passengers need to remain alert,” said Vinay Srivastava, DRM of Samastipur division.

Officials warn passengers not to enter AC coaches without valid tickets:

He said passengers should not enter AC coaches without proper tickets, as travelling without a valid ticket is an offence.

Fines may also be imposed for travelling on child tickets despite being adults, smoking in trains, and unnecessary chain-pulling, with certain offences also carrying jail provisions.
