Patna June 28: Under the ticket-checking campaign, the Samastipur division of East Central Railway has collected fines from ticketless passengers to the tune of Rs 15.5 crore in the last three months of the financial year 2024-25.

The public relations office of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Samastipur released data till June 25 and said the fines were imposed on 2.09 lakh passengers to the tune of Rs 15.5 crore.

Samastipur Railway Division has launched a ticket-checking campaign. The officials are strict on the railway passengers traveling without tickets and without proper authority in various rail routes of this division.

The DRM office has constituted special teams in almost all the railway sections of this division. Along with this, action has also been taken against ticketless passengers as well as a large number of such passengers who were caught traveling in trains without proper authority.

“We have been carrying ticket checking campaign for the last few months and we will continue the same in the future. In such a situation, railway passengers need to be alert,” said Vinay Srivastava, DRM of the Samastipur division of East Central Railway. 

The official said that caution is necessary to avoid fines while traveling in trains. One should not travel in AC coaches without proper tickets. Traveling without a ticket is a crime. There are also provisions of fine for traveling on half-tickets (An adult is traveling on a child ticket). Smoking on the train and chain pulling without reason can lead to fines as well as jail.
