Patna, December 30, 2025: Amid the ongoing controversy over the government bungalow allotted to former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has accused senior Janata Dal (United) leaders of illegally occupying government bungalows in Patna despite being allotted official residences in Delhi.
The RJD has alleged that JDU national working president and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Jha, along with Sitamarhi MP Devesh Chandra Thakur, are continuing to occupy government bungalows in Bihar even after receiving residential accommodation in the national capital.
The party has questioned the legality of their continued stay and alleged misuse of influence.
RJD writes to the Building Construction Department:
RJD National Spokesperson Nawal Kishore Yadav has written a letter to the Bihar Building Construction Department, seeking clarification on the rules under which the two MPs are occupying the government residences.
“In light of the above subject, I wish to draw your attention to the fact that Devesh Chandra Thakur, Member of Parliament from Sitamarhi, and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Jha have been allotted residences in Delhi. You are aware that earlier, due to their positions as ministers and chairpersons, they were allotted residences from the Bihar Central Pool. Despite this, they continue to occupy these residences,” Yadav wrote in the letter.
Yadav questioned whether the MPs are paying ten times the normal rent, as mandated under rules for overstaying, or whether the bungalows are being retained through political influences.
“The Building Construction Department has not clarified the current status in this matter. Under what rule are they allowed to occupy these bungalows? What is the reason for their continued attachment to these residences?” Yadav asked, adding sarcastically whether there was some secret chamber inside the bungalows that necessitated their continued occupation.
Allegations regarding Jitan Ram Manjhi:
The RJD also raised questions over Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, asking in what capacity he is residing in a bungalow from the Patna central Pool and whether such a residence can be allotted to his daughter-in-law.
The party sought clarification on whether seniority or eligibility norms permit such allotment.
Yadav requested the department to clearly state the rules under which these bungalows are occupied, the date by which the residences will be vacated, and the amount of additional rent recovered, if any, for extended occupation.
The allegations come amid sustained attacks by the JDU, BJP, and other NDA allies on the RJD and the Lalu Prasad family over the government bungalow at 10 Circular Road, which was allotted to Rabri Devi in her capacity as the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council.
Recently, the Bihar Building Construction Department issued an order directing Rabri Devi to vacate the bungalows, triggering sharp political reactions and counter-allegations between the ruling NDA and the opposition RJD.
