Rain and thunderstorms brought relief for the people of Bagaha in Bihar.

Patna, May 31, 2024: After days of unbearable heat across Bihar, residents of Bagaha sub-division finally got respite late Thursday night, when heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms lashed the region.

The sudden downpour brought relief from the intense heatwave, but also caused disruption.

Power supply disrupted due to rain and thunderstorms:

Strong winds uprooted trees and snapped high-tension electric wires, leading to power outages and long traffic jams, especially near DM Academy Chowk on National Highway 727.

Traffic movement was affected for several hours.

Despite the damage, the rain brought much-needed cool relief to locals, making the weather pleasant on Friday morning.

The Meteorological Department had earlier issued a heatwave alert for the state, warning of extreme conditions with temperatures exceeding 45 degrees Celsius and high humidity.

It had also forecast the possibility of rain and thunderstorms, which materialized in parts of Bihar on Thursday night.

Officials now expect the maximum temperature to be around 40 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature to be around 28 degrees Celsius in Patna on Friday, with more showers likely in the coming days.

Intense heatwave causes problems for people across the state:

The heatwave has taken a toll on the state—on Wednesday, over 100 students fainted in government schools across several districts, while at least 26 people, including police personnel and election staff, reportedly died due to heatstroke.
