Rahul Gandhi meets the family of ‘Mountain Man’ Dasharatha Manjhi in Gaya, signals grassroots outreach.

Patna, June 6, 2025: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited Dasharatha Nagar village in Gaya district on Friday, where he met the family members of Dasharatha Manjhi, famously known as the “Mountain Man” for carving a road through a hill in Gehlor village to connect his isolated village to basic amenities.

Rahul Gandhi received a grand reception in Gaya:

Upon arrival, Gandhi was warmly received by Bhagirath Manjhi, son of Dashrath Manjhi, and other family members.

The Congress leader sat with them, shared coconut water, and listened to their concerns. The family reportedly spoke about their financial difficulties, to which Gandhi responded with an offer of assistance.

Sources indicate that Bhagirath Manjhi also expected his desire to contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections from Bodh Gaya constituency, potentially under the Congress banner.

Following the meeting, Rahul Gandhi proceeded to Gehlor village, where he paid tribute to Dasharatha Manjhi by garlanding his statue.

He later departed for Rajgir accompanied by Bhagirath Manjhi, to attend a scheduled program.

Part of Congress’s Bihar Strategy:

Earlier in the day, Gandhi landed at Gaya Airport, receiving a warm welcome from state Congress leader and supporters. This marks his sixth visit to Bihar in 2025, underscoring the party’s intensified grassroots engagement strategy ahead of the Bihar assembly elections.

The Congress is aiming to rebuild its presence in the state by connecting with iconic local figures and addressing issues of marginalized communities.

Gandhi’s consistent outreach suggests a broader effort to rejuvenate the party’s organizational strength in the region.
