Patna, November 25, 2025: The Building Construction Department of Bihar allotted a new government Bungalow to former Chief Minister Rabri Devi on Tuesday, while simultaneously taking back the Lalu family’s long-occupied residence at 10-Circular Road in Patna.
The bungalow at 10, Circular Road, had been allotted to Rabri Devi as she was the former Chief Minister of Bihar.
Later, after the Supreme Court ruled that former Chief Ministers cannot retain government bungalows, the house was reallocated to the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council.
Since Rabri Devi held that position, she continued to reside there.
Now, following a fresh government order, the bungalow has been withdrawn, and bungalow number 39 on Hardinge Road has been allotted for use by the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council.
Rabri Devi will be required to shift to this new bungalow until further changes in political positions.
Impact on the Rabri Devi family:
The 10, Circular Road residence has been the political headquarters and family home of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, and their children, since 2005, after losing power.
The bungalow was expensively modified to suit the family’s needs, including additional rooms and a conference hall for political engagements.

Tejashwi Yadav, though officially allotted the 1 Polo Road bungalow as Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, mainly uses that location as his office, where close aide Sanjay Yadav stays.
With the government reclaiming 10, Circular Road, Tejashwi is also expected to relocate.
Political reactions and speculation:
Reacting sharply, RJD spokesperson Ejaz Ahmed said, “As soon as the new government was formed, the NDA government started acting out of vengeance. It is evident that the Nitish Kumar-led government is acting under pressure from the BJP.”
The development has triggered intense political debate, with the RJD framing the move as a politically motivated action, while official sources maintain that the allotment is a routine exercise of the department.
