New Delhi, March 5, 2026: Dr. Alexander Stubb, President of the Republic of Finland, met President of India Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on March 5, 2026, during his visit to India.
Welcoming President Alexander Stubb, President Murmu said his presence as the Chief Guest at this year’s Raisina Dialogue was a matter of pride for India.
She expressed confidence that his perspectives on the contemporary global situation would add significant value to the deliberations.
Droupadi Murmu highlighted India and Finland’s old relationship in the presence of Alexander Stubb:
President Murmu noted that India regards Finland as a valued and trusted partner, with ties rooted in mutual trust and shared democratic traditions.
Both leaders agreed that India—Finland relations have evolved into a dynamic partnership in recent years, anchored in innovation, clean technologies, education, and economic cooperation.

President Murmu also expressed optimism that the recently announced India—EU Free Trade Agreement would inject fresh momentum into bilateral trade and investment flows.
Focus on technology and innovation:
Highlighting Finland’s global leadership in advanced digital technologies—including quantum technology and 6G—President Murmu appreciated the contribution of Finnish companies to India’s development journey towards a “Viksit Bharat.”
She also pointed out that several Indian companies operate in Finland and that thousands of Indian professionals, particularly in the IT sector, are contributing significantly to Finland’s economy. This growing people-to-people and business engagement, she said, creates vast opportunities for deeper collaboration.
Cooperation in sustainable development:
President Murmu commended Finland’s leadership in sustainable development and clean technologies. She underlined India’s own progress in climate action through the expansion of solar and wind energy capacity, promotion of green hydrogen, improvements in energy efficiency, initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance and the Global Biofuels Alliance.
She also apprised President Alexander Stubb of India’s LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) Mission, which encouraged sustainable living practices.
President Murmu noted that by combining Finland’s expertise in sustainable technologies with India’s green energy innovation, the two nations can demonstrate that economic prosperity and environmental sustainability can advance together.
